A reminder that our next meeting is this evening at 5:30pm. We’ll get a tour of the McMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy site. McMahon/Ryan is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending child abuse through intervention and education.
They have an amazing facility at 601 East Genesee Street in Syracuse that houses a lot of child advocacy groups, and we’ll get a tour and a walking presentation.
Park in the big lot on East Genesee Street. There are two buildings on that site — the Peck Hall building is NOT theirs; you’ll actually walk around the other building and through a gate. The entrance is on Fayette Street (the lot is bordered by Fayette, Genesee and McBride). Josh will hang outside until about 5:35 to usher you in the right direction.

* GreeningUSA is seeking board members!
GreeningUSA focuses on advocating for communities to become more sustainable. They are in the process of nominating new members for their Board of Directors.
If you or anyone you know is interested, contact Peter Arsenault at pja-arch@twcny.rr.com. The requirements are pretty basic, but this is a “working board” so monthly attendance at Board meetings and service on at least one committee is expected. * Friends of Beaver Lake seeks board members
Friends of the Beaver Lake Nature Center is looking for board members. If you’re interested, send an inquiry to Bruce Stebbins at brucestebbins@verizon.net — let him know you heard about the opening from us!
* Visions for Change needs volunteers
Visions for Change is the lead agency for an anti-poverty initiative in Syracuse called “Circles®”. This program works with low-income individuals who are working very hard to become self-sufficient and out of poverty. During this program the participants are matched with Allies/mentors who work with them 2 hours a month to help them meet their goals. They are looking for volunteers to become Allies. * Event opportunity: Future Fund Kickoff Event
The Future Fund is a giving circle that allows young professionals to become philanthropists by pooling together donations to make a $5,000 grant to a local nonprofit every year. Members are involved at every step of the granting process, from picking grant categories to reviewing proposals, to site visits.
This grant season’s kickoff event will be Thursday, October 13 at the Cafe at the Redhouse at 5:30pm.
* Event opportunity: Holidays at the Mansion
Volunteers are needed for an upcoming event! The George & Rebecca Barnes Foundation is looking for volunteers for Hoidays At The Mansion. This event is October 21st thru 30th from 10am to 4pm.
